Dee Ferris

Dee Ferris' Endless Numbered Days (2007) is a vision of bruised clouds that bubble up and drip down the canvas. Yet her painting also betrays a less romantic quality: Pipe Dreams and Sweet Sweet Bulbs (2006) hosts a plethora of melting protuberances, reminiscent of old men's noses, which loom in somewhat lurid fashion. Despite this inclination towards the chimeric, anything approaching the saccharine is wiped away by the titles of the works, such as Double Sprung with Deep Pile (2006), which intimate an otherwise obscure connection to the artist's employment of shopping catalogues and travel brochures. Ferris' numerous washes of pigment and glaze attest to the power of paint to render the mundane fantastic.
