Flavio de Marco
most familiar - the computer screen. Grey and blue windows float on black backgrounds, as in offices everywhere.
The images appear to reference multiple sources; the aesthetic considerations of 60s minimalist painting, futurism's consideration of technology, progress and light, and in their composition, bring to mind works by American abstract painter Richard Diebenkorn.
They represent a fractal horizon, a unit in the structure of the gaze, able to reproduce all equal landscapes. The paintings problematise the picture plane, revealing and obscuring landscapes simultaneously.
The work plays with the viewer's perception and interpretation, in subject matter and chosen development, and in their physicality. The canvases are constructed to create a super flat image, by bevelling the sides in a triangular shape so that they are not visible when walking around the picture.
Flavio de Marco lives and works in Rome and Milan.
