Nahuel Vecino

Nahuel Vecino is an emerging Argentine painter whose pictorial style is receiving considerable acclaim within Argentina. The works draw from classical references yet also include elements that position them firmly in a local and contemporary social context. Subjects are often local urban working classes contextualised in a canonised heroic pictoriality, considering the universal in the human condition, the sublime and the transcendental nature of beauty.

Of particular attention are the distant, hypnotic looks of his subjects and the connoisseurship with which he utilizes technique. Nahuel Vecino's work reveals a continued return to the hermeneutic and perturbing gaze of faces which look towards an undecipherable space, suggesting a mysterious dialectic  between the new and the ancient, between progress and cycles of history, between the familiar and the unknown.

Vecino wants to get out of the realism of the 'villa-miseria'. He has made beautiful shapes and linked them to a state of exile, looking for a transcendental essence of the human soul.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1977, Nahuel Vecino continues to live and work there. After finishing his studies in the fine arts school, Prilidiano Pueyrreydón, he was granted a Kuitca Fellowship for young artists in 2003
